Kyra in Faith; Chapter 8;
Second Cell
Derek’s palace was large, maybe not as big as others, but huge enough to have myself baffled. I walked through tons of rooms and hallways, never able to find a cell entrance. I walked into a corridor and passed another hallway. The hallway led around the corner. I was about to go around it, but stopped. I could hear some voices. I peaked around the corner and saw Oliver and Miles. Miles was carrying a cup of water and a plate with a small amount of food.
I never really noticed what they really looked like, since I wasn’t focused on their appearance until now. Oliver was normal height with a sword at his belt. His hair was dark brown with shades of grey. He wore armor that was made of a silver colored metal with a sword at his side. His face was kind of revolting to look at since it was full of grim.
Miles, however, was short and small. His armor was about two sizes too big for him and it made shingle noises when he walked. His hair was colored a sandy brown that looked greasy and unwashed. He had a large nose and wide eyes. They started to talk.
“What did his majesty say again?” asked Oliver.
“I dunno something about a secret door and a lever” said Miles.
“You were supposed to listen!”
“Shut it! So were you!”
“Well I got the food! I can’t do everything you know!”
“I said Shut it! I think the door’s over here”
They faced a brick wall with lit candles on the sides. One atypical candle was not lit and had a hard look to it. Oliver grabbed it and pulled it down. All of a sudden, a section of the brick wall lowered revealing a small entrée way.
“Hey, it worked!” said Miles.
“Of course it worked you idiot! Now come on!” said Oliver.
They entered the murky tunnel and somehow closed the door within the room.
I walked up to the wall and felt around. It seemed secure, only for the one unlit candle. I griped it like Oliver did and pulled it down. The candle looked like wax but was actually a white stone.
A few
“You spilled water on me!” screamed Oliver.
“Sorry! It’s kind of hard to watch were your going in the dark!” quarreled Miles.
I followed them, keeping a safe distance. I heard some of the gist’s of their conversation, but other then that it was mostly muffled whispers to my ear.
The tunnel was damp and felt remote. I kept walking, turning corners when I saw them and following Miles and Oliver. My steps slowed and I couldn’t hear them any more. All of a sudden, I herd a loud noise, like the rolling of a bolder sound. I stopped moving to listen. Their were some slight whispers and then a crash. Oliver yelled.
“You clumsy idiot! Look what you did!”
“It was not my fault! You bumped into me!” Miles whined.
“No I didn’t! You’re the one that broke down the door! Plus you dropped the plate!”
“You always blame me for everything!”
“His Majesty is going to be furious!” said Oliver.
“No he won’t. He’ll never find out because we’ll just go get a new plate of food and come back to fix the door”
“Hmmm…That’s actually a good idea. Now let’s go before someone noticed the door”
I herd footsteps come towards me. I looked around for somewhere to hide. I put my a half melted candle to the stone wall. A large hole the size of a small well was centered to the right of me. It was full of cobwebs and dust. I shoved the right side of my body into the opening and then my left. I barely fit into it. Oliver and Miles were coming closer. I tried to slow my breathing. I was almost sure my heart echoed in this tunnel. I blew out my candle. Hopefully there was light at the end of this passageway.
They walked right past me. I gave out a large breath and waited sixty seconds before emerging from the opening. I threw my candle into the hole. It was now useless. I walked forward. A door was open with the knob on the ground. I couldn’t imagine to how the accidentally broke it.
Beyond the door there was a dim lighted room with three bared cells. This could be it. He could be here. My love. Was he here? My hands turned clammy and bits of moisture erupted from my forehead. I spoke his name.
“Ch-Charlie?”
“Kyra? Is that you?” It was his voice! But it sounded weak. Still soft, but no longer velvet.
“Charlie! I’m here!”
“Kyra, where are you?”
“Here! Charlie! I’m here!”
He was in the first cell in chains. My eyes lit up and then let go. Warm tears fell down my cheeks, wetting the collar of my dress. I ran to the bars. Our hands touched. I saw his hypnotic green eyes. They looked different, a different shade of green maybe; almost cloudy. It killed me. His face was bruised and his lip was bloody.
“You have to get out of here!” he said.
“No! I’m not leaving without you!”
This hurt me in a way. I knew he told me to get out for my protection but it still pained me. I wanted to stay with him forever and never leave his side.
“You have to Love. You’re in a trap.” He touched my cheek.
I cried harder.
“Don’t cry Kyra, sweet”
“I-I’m not”
“Please stop crying. You have to! People will be back. Run to Athoria. Tell your Father! You have to listen to me Kyra”
“I-I can’t. You have to come with me”
He whipped a loose tear away from my face. My heart was worried and twisted. He held my face in his hands and kissed me.
Someone started to talk in the second cell. His voice was familiar.
“Whose there? Charlie, who are you talking to?” said the voice.
I knew this voice, though I hoped I wasn’t right.
“Is that you Kyra?” he said again.
“King Edwin?” I stuttered.
