The Runaway Angel6

in reading TWILIGHT... AGAIN!!!

Entering Dof was hard work, and Bernisa had a vision before Annadella's death that they would be headed there. So she made passports for her and Lionel.

<Can't we just transform Bern?>

<No. I've been here before and they take legality seriously. If so much as a bat, like us, goes over, we would be immediately shot down. Especially at night.>

Lionel shuddered, and someone with a megaphone, on top of the wall called out. "People of all ages! The wall will be closing now because it is almost sunset! You will need to either hurry in or camp out! All children, elderly, and woman with children come on in! And HURRY UP!" Bernisa swore. By children they meant twelve and under. They couldnt camp outside tonight because they need to eat. And humans were one of the nearest living things. "We need to go back to the woods. We cant stay here Lionel." Lionel nodded, he knew what she meant. The sun was setting and he was getting hungry.

They stepped back and headed to the woods. As they reached the outside of them, fangs started to grow on Bernisa. "Hurry up Lionel!" she hissed. She ran to the woods, where she could already go blind as a bat. Echolocation, her brain screamed. She sent out a high pitched squeal. A bird nesting on a low branch about a foot away. She reached out and grabbed it. The bird squawked and struggled, but Bernisa strangled it until it was lifeless. Hungrily, she drank the blood.

When she was finished, she wiped her mouth free of blood. Lionel was feasting on another bird. She felt a pang in her stomach. She just killed a innocent bird, and she loved birds. "Sorry, birdie," she said quietly. She felt Lionel put his arms around her. "We need to go back. The suns rising. Fast." They ran back to the edge of the campout, where people were beginning to stir. The gates opened, to everyone's relief, and they hurried in, getting their passports checked along the way.

Lionel squeezed Bernisa's hand, both hoping the gaurds wouldnt notice any flaw. They let out a breath. They were in. Dof was bustling in the early morning, people going in and out of shops before the day became over 100 degrees. They found a shanty on the other side of Dof near the exit bridge. "We leave tomorrow at sunset. We need provisions if we're going to make it to Dventon Sersi," Bernisa said as they laid down. They slept through the night, into early morning.
