Kyra in Faith; Chapter 6; Forest’s End

It didn’t take me long.  The day was almost over when a light at the end of the forest captured my hope.  A smile lit up my face that made my heart rise from its pit of sorrow.  I ran towards it, hoping I was right about where I was.  It blinded me when I stepped off the forest floor.  The forest shade had made my vision darker.  It was shock that made me cover my arm over my head.  In front of me stood rolling lush green hills.  Onwards stood small cottages and shops.  Through a misty haze stood an immense castle with bright red and yellow flags perched on its towers.

To my surprise, I was abruptly scared.  Really scared, more than climbing out of my three story bedroom window.  What was I supposed to do now?  I would have to go into their territory without any protection.  How could I be so stupid?  Was I really this unintelligent?  Was I really this thick?  Was it really that evident that all people were clever but me?  It seemed so.  But was it real?  I couldn’t be that dim.  People told me I was bright.  Where they telling the truth?  I didn’t know.

But I had to do something now or I might run out of time.  Go with the crowd was what the first idea that came to mind.  I took one step forward.  That was all.  I wanted to go farther but someone grabbed my shoulder.  My scream of panic didn’t do anything because he put his hand over my mouth.  I kicked and punched and elbowed and kneed the person but they were too strong.  A second man came up with a sword which made me stop struggling.

“Nice try girl, but no one is aloud in this territory but ones who have the right” said the man with the sword.

“Oliver!  I think she’s that princess our leader has told us about!” said the second man.

“You think?”

The man with the sword, who I thought was named Oliver, looked closely at my face.

“You right Miles!”

Miles, the second man, showed his yellow crooked teeth in a twisted grin.  His breath smelled like whiskey and garlic.  He uncovered my mouth when I bit his hand.

“Ow!!! She bit me!”

“Oh shut up Miles” said Oliver.

“Don’t tell me to shut up!”

“Hello?  Let me go of me!!!  My father will hang you for this!!!”

“Don’t try to get out of this.  We are going to take you to the palace whether you like it or not!”

“Let go of me! You’ll be dead tomorrow morning if you don’t unhand me!!!  LET GO!!!”

I was kicking and screaming at top pitch.  My voice couldn’t be any louder.  They didn’t let go.

“Don’t be difficult princess.  You’re coming with us”

“No I won’t!”

“Yes you will or will be forced to hurt you”

Oliver held his sword to my throat.  I gulped.  My feet stopped kicking and my arms wrested to my sides.

“That’s better” said Miles.

They tied my hands behind my back.  Miles took Oliver’s dagger and held the tip to my back.  Oliver walked in front of me.  We headed off toward the town.  I thought about Elbowing Miles in the chest and running, but that would be no use.  They were sure to be faster than me.  My hope was lost.

We made it to the palace quicker than I imagined.  We went thought a corridor and into a ballroom where Derek was talking to a tall and brawny, blonde haired man.  But where was Edwin?  That was strange.  Edwin was always with Derek.

Derek stopped talking to the blonde haired man when he saw me.  My head sparked an Idea.  I would have to lie.  I was usually terrible at lying.  The blonde haired man left the room and so did Oliver and Miles.

“Oh Derek!  Thank god!  I was lost!  You don’t know how happy I am to see you!”  I tried to sound thankful to see him, even though I was gridding my teeth at the same time.  I ran to him and gave him a hug.  I imagined I was hugging Charlie instead of this creep.

“Kyra, what are you doing here?”  He didn’t sound too happy.

“I was so terrified!  I was just taking a walk in the forest when this man walked up to me and threatened to take all my jewels and kill me!  I threw my necklace at him and ran away as fast as I could!  I got lost and want in the wrong direction.  Somehow I ended up here.  Oh Derek! I am so happy to see you!”

I hugged him tighter.

“Wow you must be so…tired.  Walking all those miles in the wrong direction”

“Yes I am”

“I’ll send you a maid to get you a room…and a new dress. That one is horrible”

I just noticed that my hair and clothes were completely ratted.  My dress was now torn on all sides and covered in dirt.  My hair was fizzed up and had tons of twigs in it.  I was now embarrassed.  I herd Derek laugh at me when the maid came.  Hopefully he believed my story.

My room was big, but not quit as fancy as the one back home.  A slim green dress with gold in the sleeves was lying on my bed.  I slipped off my old dress and put on the new one.  It was a little too fancy for my liking.  It would do better at a ball or special occasion.  I looked at myself in the mirror.  I squeezed my arms tightly and flowed down to the floor.  It went out slightly at the waist and, again, brought out my emerald eyes.  I felt a little self conscience, though I didn’t really know why.

The green dress made me think of Charlie’s bottle green eyes.  How they used to watch me in a tender and passionate way.  How he would come to the palace just to see me.  It made me sad.  Charlie was somewhere here.  I could feel it.  I would have to find him now.

Someone knocked on my door and walked in.  His eyes were darker than ever.  They beamed with intensity.  Derek.
